The coal based 1,320 MW, NTPC’s joint venture power project will be constructed at Rampal in Bagerhat district, Bangladesh at about $1.2 Bn. The plant is expected to start producing power by December 2018.
With an aim to award contract for construction of the project by June 2015, the tenders are expected to open for bidding by this month it self. Fichtner Consulting Engineers have been appointed to select a consultant to help in sourcing coal for the project; since the plant will consume about 8 million tonnes of imported coal annually.
The project is being built by Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company, A joint venture between Bangladesh Power Development Board and NTPC. The 1,320 MW Maitree Project is the first project of this venture.
