$ 2.8 Bn worth tender for trains for ‘Dhaka Metro’ will be published on January 31

Tender for contract of supplying 24 six-car trains will be published on 31st of January 2015. The contract would be to pre-qualify bidders, said Mr. Obaidul Quadar. (Infrabuddy had published a post on 11th November 2014, which noted that the tenders will be out by January 2015.)

Dhaka metro Rail Authority has not yet approved the estimated cost of the trains. JICA – Japan International Cooperative Agency is financing the project.

The construction of the project is expected to commence in December. First section, which is linking Uttara and Agargaon is about to be commissioned by December 2019 and the entire project connecting Uttara Third Phase, Agargaon, Farmgate and Motijheel should complete by 2024.

The detailed design of the 20km elevated line which will carry 60,000 passengers per hour and connect 16 stations is being worked upon.

JICA will fund about $US 2.1bn while the Bangladesh government will fund the remaining Taka 53.9bn.
