Soon the northern state of India ‘Uttar Pradesh’ would have Metro rail in seven major cities including existing projects in Noida, Ghaziabad and Lucknow, and new projects being proposed in cities like Kanpur, Meerut, Agra, Varanasi.
Technical feasibility reports have been already submitted by the development authorities of Kanpur, Meerut, Agra and Varanasi to the Uttar Pradesh government and soon the government is expected to decide on a preparation of DPRs (detailed project reports) will be taken in the Cabinet meeting.
The state would then go hunting for funds from centre and foreign lending agencies.
Lucknow metro work is in full swing. The target is to make the first phase of eight km out of over 23 km to start by the end of 2016.
