To supply Smart Transformers – a total of 420 MVA • Part of Paraguay’s 220 kV & 66 kV network expansion and modernisation project Transformers to be manufactured in Mumbai, India
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Avantha Group Company CG has signed a contract with the State Utility of Paraguay – Administracion Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE) for eight single and three phase transformers totalling 420 MVA, for the expansion of the country’s 220 kV and 66 kV Electricity Network. Paraguay is one of the world’s largest exporters of electricity, and also exports to neighbouring regions like Brazil and Argentina. CG has been present in South America for the past two decades and has previously partnered with ANDE for the supply of single and three phase transformers and 30,000 Smart Meters to the Paraguayan grid.
This contract was won through a competitive international public bidding process. CG was selected for this prestigious project due to its successful track record in Paraguay, backed by a global recognition of its technical expertise in manufacturing and supplying high-voltage transformers. CG has been actively involved in the Generation, Transmission and Distribution sector in Latin America and in the Caribbean, with an installed base of over 55,000 MVA, and up to 500 kV. The company has a presence in over 28 countries in the region with active representation in most countries. CG will manufacture the transformers in Mumbai, India and supply them in 3 lots. Spare parts, supervision of the installation and commissioning and onsite training are a part of CG’s scope. Latin America forms an important part of CG’s India export strategy, and the company has been exporting highly advanced equipment to the region for over 23 years, primarily from its world-class manufacturing bases that are located in Bhopal, Mumbai and Nashik, in India.
CG also has a highly advanced manufacturing base in Brazil that is involved in the manufacture of Extra High Voltage (EHV) Switchgear, Mobile substations and Automation solutions for leading utilities in the region. In the Industrial sector, CG has a growing customer base in the Mining, Cement, and Pulp and Paper segments, with its large range of LV and HV Motors, Generators, Drives, Automation, and smart transit solutions. The company is thus well positioned to serve both, the North and South American markets, and can provide an array of power Transmission and Distribution (T&D) products to the region, to Power Utilities and Industries alike.
The Paraguayan grid has 1.3 million customers and approximately 32,000 kms of distribution lines. It has been growing at a rate of 4 percent on a yearly basis since 2009. This contract represents the strengthening of approximately 15 percent of ANDE’s current transformer capacity. ANDE’s grid also faces difficulty due to distribution losses which are amongst the highest in the region. CG’s Smart Meters assist in reducing these losses, and improving the grid’s energy efficiency.
Commenting on this significant order, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO & Managing Director, Laurent Demortier said: “We at CG are extremely proud to be a part of this critical project. We would like to thank ANDE for their continued patronage of our globally benchmarked products and look forward to many more such collaborations to come. This order reinforces CG’s strategic intent to diversify its customer base in Latin America, and we remain focused on building the energy infrastructure of the region with our extensive range of technologically driven products, systems and solutions.”
