Construction work on Ahmedabad metro expected to begin in September

The construction work of Ahmedabad metro station is expected to begin in September or October 2014, a Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) a special purpose vehicle. To implement this project the state government requires fund of Rs 5,900 crore from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The phase –I of the project includes a total length of 35.2 km, includes 28.2 km elevated and 7.0 km underground section, having 32 stations.

As per the reworked route, the metro project will have two corridors i.e. North-South corridor (APMC to Motera Stadium) and an East-West corridor (Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam). The cost estimated is approximately Rs 10.675 crore and is likely to be commissioned by 2018 and expected to be completed by 2022. A provision of Rs 250 crore has been made for Phase-I of the project in the state government budget for FY15.
