MoU for setting up a JV company was signed recently by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, NIWE – National Institute of Wind Energy and consortium of partners consisting of NTPC – National Thermal Power Corporation, PGCIL – Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, IREDA – Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, PFC- Power Finance Corporation, PTC – Power Trading Corporation and GPCL – Gujarat Power Corporation Limited. To set upn India’s 1st demonstration offshore wind power project along the coastline of Gujarat.

This JVC will carry out feasibility study based on the inputs received from pre-feasibility studies for implementation of the first offshore demonstration wind power project.

While this will be first demonstration plant in India, UK; Denmark; Belgium; Germany; China; the Netherlands and Sweden have already installed offshore wind power projects of about 7.5 GW capacity
