India to have 40,000 MW of rooftop solar power by 2022

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Renewable Energy said, while briefing the pess at the first renewable energy global investors meet and expo. He said, that Indian government is planning to get 40,000 MW of power only from rooftop solar projects by 2022. The process, of setting up roof top solar units, on buildings owned by the Centre, railway stations and defence.

Defence establishments it selves have agreed to go upto 1,000 MW of roof top solar, Mr.Goyal added.

Out of the total target of achieving 100000 MW of solar power by 2022, 40% of the solar power is expected from solar roof tops. 300MW is already approved and under process, as a part of the first stage.

20,000 MW will be achieved under the central government’s special scheme for qualified unemployed graduates.
