India – a huge opportunity for global investors in solar power

Announcements of big ticket projects and policy makers in India setting huge targets for  solar capacity addition has made global investors seriously explore huge opportunity in India as far as Indian solar power sector is concerned.

Morgan Stanley is about to make to make a big investment in the +100 MW solar project  along with other institutional investors like IFC and Standard Chartered, Goldman Sachs (which have already invested about USD 375 million in ReNew Power, and is planning to invest more in clean energy space.

US Exim Bank, has extended USD 1 billion funding for Indian solar power programmes. ADB and German state-owned KfW are also on board to fund the solar programmes announced in India.

Indian solar power sector is poised to scale up of 100,000 MW by 2019, with estimated investments of close to USD 110 billion, includes transmission capacity.

As many as 10 big Chinese solar companies are looking to set up joint ventures in India, in the manufacturing and power production space.
