Mahatma Mandir, Gujarat is Set to Install FieldTurf’s Artificial Grass

One of India’s largest convention & exhibition centers – Mahatma Mandir – in Gandhinagar, which hosts some of the most prestigious conferences, including Vibrant Gujarat, is all set to look even better with the installation of artificial turf. This landmark project, undertaken by Dept. of R&B, Govt. of Gujarat, is a testimonial to the design philosophy of CEPT (Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology) and execution capability of Shapoorji Pallonji & Co., to embrace futuristic technology and resource conservation.

Among various upgrades to Mahatma Mandir is the addition of next-generation artificial turf for its massive rooftop of almost 5 Lakh square feet, making it the single largest rooftop installation of artificial turf in the world. After a rigorous 2-year evaluation across every aspect, CEPT and SP finally chose FieldTurf (USA) the world’s leader in artificial turf for this prestigious project.

FieldTurf’s artificial turf systems look and feel just like natural grass, without the constant costly maintenance. FieldTurf is also 100% recyclable. When a FieldTurf installation finally comes to the end of its long life – it continues to help our planet. FieldTurf was the first company in the industry to remove entire turf systems and recycle them.
Hyderabad-based Great Sports Infra Pvt. Ltd. (GSI), who pioneered the use of next-generation synthetic turf in India, and who are exclusive Licensees of FieldTurf, was awarded the project. GSI has executed over 5,000 landscape projects in India to date.

Mahatma Mandir is unique in terms of its structure with the roof sloping down to the ground, over a span of ½ KM! This presents various challenges to the execution aspects apart from the extremely tough deadline of 40 days for the installation itself.

“We thank CEPT & Shapoorji Pallonji &Co., for choosing GSI for this prestigious project. Having done a sloped rooftop project earlier at Infosys, we are confident of meeting the project challenges successfully and with the deadline.” says John K John, Director- Operations.

The turf has already been produced in record time and reaching the site in batches. The project is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of India. This sloped rooftop will be open for public access as well as for delegates.

“Delivering the highest quality, superior performance and the safest artificial turf system has been our mission at FieldTurf from the very beginning. We are proud that Govt. of Gujarat, CEPT and Shapoorji Pallonji have preferred FieldTurf for this prestigious project.” Says Eric Daliere, President of FieldTurf.
