Maharashtra government is planning to add a metro rail and a BRTS project as an expansion to its ambitious coastal road project in Mumbai, connecting south Mumbai to western suburbs.
CRZ – Coastal regulation zone norms would be modified as the centre is ready to support the proposed 34-km freeway project whole-heartedly.
Additional two lanes each, for metro rail and for bus transit network are being planned. The coastal road needs reclamation of 110 hectares of land.
Total cost of the project is being estimated at about Rs. 16,000 crore, (coastal road at Rs. 9,000 crore and the mass rapid transit systems costs at Rs. 7,000 crore). The formal approval from the centre is expected soon.
