The Nicaragua Grand Canal is going to be almost three times bigger than the length of Panama canal, will pass through difficult terrains like jungles, a lake, wetlands and native reserves.
The magnitude of the project is just enormous; the cost of the Nicaragua Grand Canal construction is estimated at $50 billion. This, 278 kilometers long canal’s width would vary between 230 and 520 meters, and its protection border of five kilometers on either side. A huge part of the project would be through Lake Nicaragua and the Construction is expected to complete in about five years, in 2020.
Nicaragua’s government is the project promoter and a total responsibility of the construction of the projects is with Hong Kong Nicaragua Canal Development (HKND).
Daniel Ortega, President, Nicaragua is very optimistic about the very positive impact of this project to Nicaragua and also other countries in Central America.
