S V R Srinivas, additional municipal commissioner, in-charge of road projects said, that an the BMC has proposed an elevated road as a part of Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, which will go through Aarey colony.
The BMC had earlier proposed, widening of recently taken over two-lane road from the state dairy development department to four-lanes. But due to the primary condition laid by the department which does not allow cutting of trees; BMC has now decided to develop an elevated road through AAREY colony.
The new proposed elevated road would be 14.5 km long and will connect Western Express Highway to Eastern Express Highway.
SCLR – The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, JVLR – Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, VAG metro corridor, and now the proposed elevated road over Aarey colony, will complete the planned development of east-west suburb link in Mumbai.
Due to elevated section of the proposed project, the cost is expected to rise by Rs. 200 crore. Total project cost would be about Rs. 1300 crore.
