The Waterview Connection project is one of the most important infrastructure developments ever to take place in New Zealand. Completing a motorway ring route around the city, this project will unlock Auckland’s potential to become a truly world class city, combating regional congestion and creating a direct, time-saving link between the international airport and the central business district. The Waterview Connection project reflects the NZ Transport Agency’s commitment to providing lasting benefits to the communities directly affected by new infrastructure.
The Well Connected Alliance uses ProjectWise as its collaboration platform to enable information mobility. Mike Reed, design manager, Well-Connected Alliance, explains, “You need the right tools for the job. Coordination between all the design disciplines is critical to the success of the project. ProjectWise wasn’t just the right tool for the job, it was an absolute necessity.”
ProjectWise enabled a strict workflow for documents, drawings, and models, and provided a single point of truth for engineering data to a geographically spread team. The workflows were used to underpin processes of review, mark-up, and approval. Because of the complexity of the engineering challenges, the Well Connected Alliance enforced stringent checking and verification procedures, and the information was passed between independent disciplines for extra checking. When the design team of 80 people disbanded and returned to their normal worksites, they were still able to collaborate and access information during the construction phase, ensuring a smooth transition.
